Safari Inspired Kids Bedroom

Things are getting wild in 2023 as we throw neutrals out the window and get creative with some bold, fun and oh-so-colorful Kids interiors! This month we transformed a drab kid's bedroom that was lacking excitement into a bold jungle themed room to match the strong personality that lives here - an adventurous 3 year old boy obsessed with safari animals. The brief had only one request - show-stopping color that gives a 'wow' factor. This meant we could get ultra-creative and tap into our color-obsessed crazy side with absolutely no limits, and boy did we do that!

Deciding on a main wall feature that fit the Safari theme was the first step in bringing together this space. It had to have high contrast to help create that 'wow' feeling when you stepped into the room, and an equally brilliant color palette to help set the tone for the rest of our product selections. The 'Jungle Jive' design by talented artist Kiki Belle was a no-brainer and ticked all the boxes, we worked with the team at Pickawall to transform this stunning artwork into a removeable wallpaper that was easy to apply and equally easy to remove when the client wanted to change things up in future (being a rental, this was super important!).

The Forest Teepee Loft Bed by Boori was a perfect choice for this bedroom which measures on the smaller side being only 3m by 3m. With storage and floor space being essential in any kids bedroom this loft style bed meant we could create more room for storage and play underneath. Paired with a removeable canopy, the loft bed also helped us to create a whole extra experience for the adventurous tot as he now 'camps out in the Jungle every single night' - we think he worded it perfectly!

Joining him on camping out under the (pretend) stars every night is his, and our, new bestie the Pixxie Projector. The team and I were absolutely blown away by this ingenious piece of technology as we reminisced over the good ol' black and white mini TV's we had the luxury of owning.. IYKYK. How times have changed. The Projector is perfect for any size screen, and all you need is a sheet or even just a plain wall to get going. We used the removable canopy on the loft bed to create the cutest cinematic experience for our lucky 3-year-old to snuggle in for a movie night at home. Wi-fi compatible, this device connected easily to Netflix and Youtube or just plug in a USB to use offline. We're actually obsessed.

When selecting décor items for the room, we focused on quality products that could stand the test of time. When the jungle-obsession is over, the last thing you want to be left with is a room full of green furniture, so instead we selected items that could be reused not only in any kid's bedroom but any room in the entire house! The Natural Pine Eggcup Stool tied in perfectly with the Safari vibes, yet would look equally as stunning in a teenagers room or living room space, making the investment in high quality furniture make so much more sense. Hung beautifully above the bed we featured the Ferm Living Dou Shade and to balance the colour (and budget!) we finished the furniture off with the clients own Rattan Bookshelf from BigW! #SneakySneaky.

The dark grey carpet was a feature of the space that the client didn't want highlighted, and for good reason! The dark grey made the room feel even smaller than the 3x3m that is was, and was selected with 'toddler mess' in mind rather than aesthetics. Luckily we solved both issues with the Going Dotty washable rug from Ohh Happy Home which complimented the stripes of the Zebra so perfectly. We love the way a light rug can completely transform the room, make it feel so much larger, lighter and way more on trend.

Finally we added our Safari themed items to cement the theme, with wooden trees and animals from Growing Kind, a gorgeous Lion rattan wall hanging, a Jungle Animal blanket and a Lion Artwork from Little Peach and Pip!

I think this bedroom has ended up being one of our absolute favorites of all time thanks to the fun colors, bold patterns and a brief that allowed our childhood imaginations to come out and go completely wild!

One of our favorite features in the Safari themed Bedroom was the ultra-luxurious knitted throw from the team at Fox and Fallow. Not only are we loving the pattern to fit in with the overall theme, but the huge 1mx1m size of this throw made it a perfect companion for late-night movies and equally as perfect for sleeping with. Our gorgeous model William enjoyed sprawling out his 'Lion Blankie' on the floor for some extra snuggly floor play time.

An essential addition for any toddler's bedroom. With a toilet-training tot in tow, your best back-up is going to be The Midnight Gang. Created by Aussie mama Angelique Woodburn, their range of sheet protectors hit the nail on the head when it comes to product design and aesthetics. With a unique wing design that helps keep them in place, these non-toxic and 100% waterproof liners are sure to end the sleep-less nights and constant bed-changing routine that often comes with toilet training! #YoureWelcome.
